Espresso House and Oatly extend cooperation

Oatly's oat drink is now served in all Espresso House coffee shops in the Nordic countries and Germany. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in guest demand for plant-based drinks, primarily oatmeal, and now more Espresso House guests can choose Oatly's oatmeal in their hot or cold drinks.

In June, Espresso House reached its target of 50% of its menu being available as plant-based, and now the chain is mapping its climate footprint according to the EU's Climate Change Action Plan. GHG Protocol [1] with the aim of setting scientific targets to reduce its climate impact.

In 2019, 8% of the coffee shop chain's guests requested plant-based products in their coffee or espresso drinks, in 2021 the figure was 14% and in June 2022 it was 17%. So more and more Espresso House guests are choosing plant-based products in their drinks, and of these, oatmeal is the most popular alternative to milk.

- Of course, we want to offer our guests the best, which is why we're incredibly excited to expand our partnership with Oatly and serve their oatmeal in all of our markets. Oatly is a global and well-known brand with 25 years of expertise in oat drinks. They strengthen Espresso House's plant-based and sustainable offering to guests and are an obvious choice for us, says Pontus Wretman, Chief Commercial Officer at Espresso House Group.

Together with Oatly, Espresso House can drive the trend towards more sustainable food and coffee habits and get more guests inspired and discover plant-based alternatives. As part of Espresso House's sustainability work, the company has set a target of 50% of its menu being available as plant-based. A target that was achieved in all markets in June this year. In 2021, Espresso House began mapping its climate footprint according to GHG Protocol. In 2022, the mapping will lead to a series of decisions aimed at setting science-based targets to reduce the chain's climate impact.

- We are proud that Espresso House will extend its cooperation with us. The company is a market-leading coffee shop chain in the Nordics with approximately 130,000 guests daily in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany. For Oatly, the collaboration is incredibly valuable as together we can meet a large number of people and help them make choices that reduce their climate footprint, says Jonas Persson Follin, Nordic Manager at Oatly.
