Meet Helin
Host
What are the most important everyday tasks in your role as a Host?
- Mainly wash dishes and ensure that the coffee shop is clean and tidy at all times. If necessary, also help in the bar and clean the storage room. The most important thing I do is to create a good first impression for the guests. You start already outside the shop, as this is the first thing the guests see. Furthermore, the host ensures that it looks inviting and that it provides a good experience and sitting in the shop. At the same time, as host, I am the one who goes around the shop and makes sure that things look decent, and while I make these rounds I often get time to talk to guests and help make their experience even better. As a host, you in a way become the face of the shop and it is therefore extra important that you smile and is cheerful.
What made you choose Espresso House as an employer - and what makes you want to stay?
- I heard about the position through an acquaintance. The person recommended that I apply, in addition to the fact that I have always wanted to work in a cafe and develop myself. What made me stay is the pleasant atmosphere at work with all the nice guests, and all the wonderful colleagues wich have becomed very good friends.
What have you learned from your job at Espresso House?
- In addition to having learned an incredible amount about coffee and coffee production as well as bar cleaning, I have learned a lot about people and the service profession. I would definitely argue that my attitude outside has changed after working at Espresso House, because things are put in a new perspective. You learn so much about people and how different we are. It's the most fun!
When was the last time you laughed at work - and what was it about?
- The guests always put me in a good mood, as well as my fellow colleagues who make it fun to be at work. But the last thing I laughed at was when I was on my way home after a shift and a guest stopped me at the door to tell me about a funny incident he had been involved in that same day. I am incredibly happy when I see that the guests are enjoying themselves and that you can help give them a smile and make their day better. :)
If you had to describe Espresso House in one word, what would it be?
- Energizing.
